Summernats 37
2-5 January 2025
With both people and cars out of action this year, the club’s representation at Summernats 37 was down on our usual numbers. But, that doesn’t mean that club members didn’t have an impact both in EPIC as entrants, spectators, Summernats staff and at the various cruises and meets around Canberra.
Overall the event was great, it was a hot and hectic (as usual) four days at EPIC, Braddon and the Canberra surrounds for the annual pilgrimage to Summernats.
Thursday at Summernats is the new Friday and Friday the new Saturday, and Saturday is still just manic. Sunday is much quieter (thank god) but the quality in terms of both the regular and Grand Champion driving events and burnout championship final still make it a reasonable day. The numbers of cars (2800) and people (god knows how many) in EPIC is still a bit of a challenge with the cruise route completely clogged at times with cars and people crossing the roads. This year shade was at a premium with temperatures in the mid-thirties 3 of 4 days. The fringe festival in Braddon continues to draw big crowds.
The biggest highlight for the weekend for the club was seeing Helen and Steve’s LX Torana Ruby making the top 60, win judge’s choice and an invite to Rockynats. Great reward for hard work by Helen and Steve and their supporters and trades. Congrats from all at the club. Unfortunately a tilt at the Grand Champion sword was thwarted by engine troubles on the Friday.
In addition, Cade was seen regularly cruising the cruise route with both standard and skid rims in place, James and Michelle’s A9X was front and centre at the Saturday show and shine and in Braddon and while Mark R unfortunately couldn’t compete in his normal driving events due to gearbox issues his LX lurked in the background.
