Holden Picnic 2024

Holden Picnic, Hall Showgrounds 2024

24 November

A hot November Sunday greeted the Canberra Torana Club members who headed for the 3rd Annual Holden Picnic at the Hall Showground. Our winter conditioned bodies and minds wilting in the November (but felt more like January) heat.

We started with most meeting at Old Parliament House for a casual cruise out to the Hall Showground via the GDE and Barton Highway, ably led by El Presidente Chris M.

On arrival we had 11 cars parked up alongside the club trailer, making an appearance for the first time in a while, and a couple of marquees to keep the sun off our pasty while arms, legs, faces and necks.

It was a smallish gathering, but a quality one with Holden’s from the 48-215s all the way through to the last of the Holdens, the VF Series 2 (and even a current model Corvette which some agreed belonged, while others didn’t). Overall there was some great cars, including some high quality EH Holdens which looked great in a row at the southern end of the oval.

Some snags were cooked on the BBQ, which was on the sunny side of the trailer and therefore we didn’t even have to use any gas to get the plate nice and hot (it wasn’t really that bad – but the truth should never get in the way of a good story) and Gerardo went gourmet with bacon and eggs on home cooked bread.

It was a relative short event due to the heat, with most departing by around 12:30pm.
