A large travelling party departed Canberra at 9am on Friday the 13th (tempting fate!) to make the 5 or so hour trek north to Maitland for Toranafest 2024. It’s the first time the event has been held since 2019 and everyone was really looking forward to it. The trip went pretty smoothly with even Joe D’s UC, nicknamed Tetanus eating up the miles.
The event took the tried and true Torana formula of Saturday Cruise (to Luskintyre Airfield), Saturday evening social activity (Drinks and chat with Gary Rogers) and Sunday Show and Shine at Maitland Park.
There was no specific highlights, but as always the volume of cars, with such a variety of bright colours was a highlight and the cruise route and destination, complete with antique aircraft were definitely picks.
With more 560+ entries registering, it was a massive event in 2024, and the club had 21 Toranas in attendance itself. Club members took away four trophies (that is 4 cars in the top 30, as voted by the sponsors), with Helen, Rob, Joe C and Michelle winning trophies with general consensus being that Joe D and Tetanus were completely robbed.
